Important notice
The delivery/re-delivery fee is the cost of the diesel used by the engines to bring the boat from its homeport to the boarding location and back.
Our fuel calculator does not include the cost of the delivery/re-delivery fee.
If the boarding location is the same as the boat’s homeport, there is no delivery or redelivery fee. Our fuel quote is accurate.
If the boarding location is different from the boat’s homeport, a delivery/redelivery fee must be added to the fuel quote.
Professional advice
Rémi van der Deure, Senior Charter Broker at Charterminute, advises: “Avoid delivery and redelivery charges by embarking from the boat’s home port if it’s closer to your final destination.
For example, if you originally planned to embark in Juan les Pins, but you’re sailing to Saint-Tropez on a yacht based in Cannes, you’ll generally save money by starting your charter in Cannes.”

FAQs
- What are the main external factors that affect a boat’s fuel consumption?
Weather conditions: strong wind, waves, and strong currents force the engine to work harder, increasing fuel consumption.
Water conditions: salinity and temperature affect water density. Denser water (cold/salty) creates more resistance, leading to higher fuel use.
Fouling: marine growth on the hull increases drag, reducing efficiency and boosting fuel consumption.
Propeller condition: Aadamaged or poorly pitched propeller can greatly increase fuel use, especially at high cruising speed.
Boat load: more passengers make the boat heavier, requiring more energy to move, therefore more fuel. - If I want to cruise at full speed, is your fuel calculator still relevant?
No, our fuel calculator is based on an average cruising speed of 18-20 knots.
Fuel consumption on a boat increases exponentially with speed, so the calculator may not accurately estimate fuel usage at higher speeds.
Additionally, speed limits are enforced in many areas, such as the Gulf of Saint-Tropez and the Bay of Cannes, making it impractical to travel at full speed throughout your journey. - What price is diesel for boats and yachts in France?
In 2024, charterers in France can expect to pay an average of €2 per liter for diesel fuel. However, large commercial yachts chartered under a “contrat de transport” agreement may be eligible to use tax-free fuel for day and weekly charters. - What’s included in the price of diesel for boats and yachts?
The final price of diesel for boats and yachts includes more than just the cost of the fuel itself. It also includes:
French VAT (Value Added Tax) at 20%
TICPE (Domestic Consumption Tax on Energy Products)
VAT on TICPE
Port taxes
Therefore, in France, the price of diesel for a motor yacht is higher than the price of diesel you would pay to fill up your car. - Is the diesel cost the same across the French Riviera?
No, diesel prices can vary across the French Riviera. Saint-Tropez, in particular, is known for having higher diesel costs compared to other areas. - I saw the same yacht model on another website with much higher fuel consumption listed. Is this a scam?
The discrepancy in fuel consumption could be due to a few reasons:
Engine Power: The yacht on the other website may be equipped with more powerful engines.
Overcharging: Some companies all to often overcharge for fuel to offer lower daily rates, potentially avoiding certain taxes.
The most important factor is the total cost at the end of your charter, including both the yacht rental and the total fuel consumption.
Compare the final prices and ensure you’re getting a fair deal. - What is the difference between a boat destination and an itinerary?
A destination is a single place you are traveling to, such as a city, town, or specific location.
An itinerary is a detailed plan for your boat trip, including all the destinations you will visit, and the activities you will do at each location. - How did you estimate the various distances?
We used a Navionics marine map application to create a route with at least 10 waypoints for each destination. Distances are usually measured port to port.
